It is used to detect cancer antigen 15-3(CA15-3) in human samples, and is mainly used in dinical observation of therapeutic efficacy and prognosis of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women, and also the cancer with the highest mortality rate among women. It is a disease in which abnormal breast cells grow out of control and form tumors. After active and effective comprehensive treatment, most patients can be cured and recover well. But if not detected and treated in a timely manner, it can lead to cancer cell metastasis, worsening of the condition, affecting the patient's quality of life, and even lifespan.
Cancer antigen 15-3(CA15-3), a glycoprotein, is the most common tumor marker of breast cancer. CA15-3 increased in 30-50% of breast cancer patients and 80% of patients with metastasis. Its clinical significance includes the following:
1. For early auxiliary diagnosis of breast cancer metastasis: CA15-3 is more sensitive than carcinoembryonic antigen and tissue polypeptide antigen in detecting cancer metastasis and it is earlier than cinical detection of metastasis.
2. For postoperative evaluation of breast cancer: CA15-3 can also monitor the recurrence of patients after surgery, especially the important quota of postoperative monitoring for cancer metastasis patients. The increase of serum CA15-3 level indicates local or systemic recurrence of breast cancer, and the increase is earlier than the radionuclide examination and clinical examination; Used for follow-up evaluation of treatment and early detection of metastatic lesions, the increase of CA15-3 is several months earlier than the clinical diagnosis of metastatic lesions.
In addition to the increase of CA15-3 in serum samples of breast cancer patients, the increase of serum CA15-3 may also occur in patients with other tumors, such as lung cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer, etc.
In addition, non malignant tumor diseases such as benign breast diseases and ovarian diseases can also cause an increase in CA15-3 levels.
